The benefits of having PV cell powered electricity at the University of Houston varies between a student of the university to the area surrounding the university parking lot where the canopies are to be constructed. The constructed canopies in the parking lot, where the PV cells are going to be constructed over, will provide shade for the student parked cars during the hot and sunny climate. Students will not need to worry about their car’s interior overheating and they will stay protected from the rain as well.
The use of solar energy will give the school a good image for using renewable energy on the college campus. Thus, it can also act as an initiative for the surrounding area buildings to follow this example for clean energy. PV cells for electrical energy on the university campus parking lot can be use as an advertisement and an example for people to follow. Another social benefit is that it will create employment benefits during construction and operational phases.

Risks
The parking lot will be closed during the construction phase of the project. This will cause a major social risk, as the students will need to park elsewhere. An alternative to parking will be provided by the University of Houston. However, the construction process will take place during the time that school use will be minimal (the summer or winter break). The construction time period is depended on the contract.
Noise during construction period may disrupt surrounding areas as well, especially the homes of civilians who live close to campus. Also, students will have to pay a small fee if they will be using that parking lot.
